Also was soll diese Menschenfeindliche Sitzanordnung?

I finished Pentiment, put it off for a long time. Mixed feelings, on one hand setting a game in the Peasant Wars is so wonderfully specific and it's clear that it was a passion project of Sawyer. Sadly both the RPG mechanics and the murder mystery plot were sort of lacklustre and I didn't care at all for the new protagonist in the second half. But it's nice that they wrote dialogue where people don't swear all the time, was a major irk for me in KCD where they made the dialogue too Game of Thrones/Witcher like.

>>7699 Pentiment was such a letdown. It started off great but then quickly after the first act turned worse. Mainly, the choices we make, the character dialogues and the traits we select, don't make much of a difference. The dialogues are also weak and basic. Expected something more from a game that is centered around story telling. Also, I'm not a poltard by any means but the narrative not missing a chance to talk about women's place in society, rape, Turing vollständigs, black monks in the middle of fucking nowhere, jewish people, gypsies and so on, is too much. It's exaggerated to the point of it being comical. The historical accuracy is perhaps close to 20%. Probably less but I stopped caring early on. The art and OST is well done. The idea was neat. It's a shame that they couldn't get better writers and historians on the team. Now the game I recently finished is Mundaun. It's a game with a setting in Switzerland and the VA is in Romansh. It was interesting being able to understand a lot of it due to knowing italian. The game is a walking sim with light puzzle and horror elements. It's the great atmosphere that pulled me in. I just liked walking around and exploring in the limited area. The story is cliche but it's executed well. Currently play testing Militsioner and really like the game, the atmosphere in particular is comfy and the idea itself is rather unique.
>>7706 The secretly fag monks and the Jews were plausible enough (they were involved in the printing business), the gypsy and Ethiopian did reek of forced DEI though.
>>7707 >the Jews were plausible enough (they were involved in the printing business) Correct but them being friends and guests with the Druckers was also as historically inaccurate as possible. My problem was not that there were jews in the game, it's the way the relationship with them was handled like with other characters. You can suspend belief here and there but Pentiment kept posing such silly premises that it stops being immersive. At least for me. >The secretly fag monks Yeah. That wasn't a problem for me but it did add to the overall inclusive narrative the game has going. I wish they kept it more realistic is all.
>>7718 It's an unfortunate reality that modern writers of historical media can only implement diversity in a heavy-handed way. Like, it always has to be niggers, it can't be, say, a guest from Novgorod, a Turkish diplomat or whatever. Instead of showcasing historical trades women dominated like brewing or textile making, they just write them to be sarcastic and snarky, it's superficial and stupid. Games usually have at least _somewhat_ authentic art direction/costumes which is why I can enjoy them, unlike TV show slop.

I'm trying to recall various things from old Casey, aside from the obvious like Wojak and Polandball. Of the personalities, I most vividly recall Fatczech/Newsczech, Nordamerikano (lernu esperanto), the one Iranian who ended up as a moderator, and DyslexicBrit. Wojak is the site's biggest cultural contribution, even though most non-Bernds have no clue about it. It's surreal to think of having been on KC when it was still basically confined to it with only a tiny bit of spillover to 4chong's /int/, having no clue at the time it would become one of the most defining and enduring features of global internet culture. Gotta wonder what Wojak (the Pole) thinks, his creation and its permutations having attained worldwide fame by accident yet himself remaining completely unknown to the world. Polandball was popular for a time, peaking in the middle of the previous decade. Had its own subHabsgelesen, and you might occasionally see it posted on social media. But it quickly fizzled out, I assume more or less at the same time as KC itself, and now seems very much dead. Other than that, I remember a bunch of memes from cross-pollination with Finnish imageboards, primarily Ylilauta. Spurdo spärde, "Grease pay denbts", KC-tire Stallman, Spede Pasanen (Assburger). There was Proofster during the 2014 invasion of Crimea that was a KC original, and Remove Kebab too, but can't recall much else. IWO threads, those were always very good and interesting. Post ITT anything related to KC of the previous decade.

What is the greatest suffering in your life currently?

>>7529 >>7530 It's not just people who are more social, but who fall into a specific demographic. It's been widely known by now that IQ tests have strong cultural and personality-based biases. If you have ever taken a test or seen questions in those tests it slowly becomes more evident. The biggest issue is that this isn't just your standard test where you answer and it's either right or wrong; but someone else, maybe many people, maybe not, looks at your answers and gives you an arbitrary score based on their own opinion. But not only that, in many cases and specially wealthy people will spend money on a test to assure them that they're smart, oftentimes the people with strong financial ties to the institution. Combine that with the previous point and now you see there's a clear conflict of interests. Would you like the test if it came out and they called you an idiot? If you were one of the people who invests in that company or donates to that organization, would you keep doing so? Most people have fragile egos, and rich people, as a normal consequence of their social situation, even more so. And finally, just look at yourself. Do you think you are the same level of intelligent every day at every hour? Do you not have times where you think, do or say a thing and then question yourself? Don't you have days when things just don't seem to come out right and nothing makes sense, and then other days when everything seems so simple? Obviously intelligence fluctuates. So it's a really hard sell to say that you can just sit down at a time and a place within a specific context and you're going to get a an accurate score. But rich people have another problem. Even if they're smart or are born smart or are taught to appear smart... they dumb themselves down over time as they wield the power that money and status gives them. They use money or threats to avoid having to think about stuff and they become accustomed to just not using their brains much.>>7530
>>7669 I agree it has issues but it's the best test we have. Rich people don't get dumbed down by being rich... It obviously takes more brain power to manage a company than it does to flip hamburgers. And I don't think intelligence is changeable to a serious degree anyway. Yes, on different days people might be smarter and such but it would be all within a certain range. People aren't going to be intelligence and then become stupid because they took a vacation for a year or something.
>>7673 >It obviously takes more brain power to manage a company than it does to flip hamburgers. Two problems with that. 1. Rich people pay others to manage their company, or, if they're rich enough, "manage" their company while paying or using their position to threaten other people into fixing or at least taking the blame for their constant fuckups, then they lie so much and with such conviction that they start living that lie; suddenly, they don't have to actually think anything through, if they have an idea they just demand that idea be realized and when it doesn't work or can't be fulfilled or creates more problems they just tell themselves it's not their fault and demand as well it be fixed. For example: I had a boss once who would regularly spend more money bribing lawyers to avoid paying taxes than what it would've taken to just pay an accountant and the taxes properly. And he's not the worst, nor the richest, I've worked for or met. But more often than not the richest will literally just pay someone else, often multiple people, to make all the important decisions while they are nothing more than a figurehead who also takes home the biggest check home (those are actually the smart ones, even if they'll act dumb when confronted). 2. people who flip burgers don't use their entire brainpower to do their burger flipping job. Like the taxes guy? He has literally no hobbies, no interests, and no topics of conversation besides whats most immediately relevant to the goings on of his business. Except for rich people gossip, what's needed for him to network for the promotion of his business. And even other rich people hate him because he has nothing to bring to a social interaction except promoting his business. Burger flipper guy might as least have 1 other thing going on in his life. >People aren't going to be intelligence and then become stupid because they took a vacation for a year No, but people are going to act stupider if they're, for example, nervous or anxious, if they haven't slept well, If something upsetting happened to them that morning, if they're ill or hungry, or not interested in the test, etc. And sure, maybe you don't feel like these or any other number of things could affect IQ test scores significantly, but how could you know? > it's the best test we have. The best... but for what, exactly? For giving you a number with no real meaning that you can make fun graphs with, yeah. For actually telling how smart people are, specially to find trends in populations? nah. Only one curious trend I find in IQ is that people who care a lot and claim to trust IQ tests more tend to be conservative older demographics, yet these same people also complain about how all young people are ignorant imbecilic retards for generally disagreeing with them on social and political issues or having different interests and skills. Yet the real trend in IQ is that younger people consistently score higher with each passing generation.
>>7680 >1 That's the difference between an owner and a boss. I have no problem with bosses making more, as long as the ratio is a reasonable amount. They do have more responsibilities and do other things. Owners, i.e. "my grandfather founded this company 100 years ago so i deserve the biggest cut" are a cancer in society. From a market perspective, they are a liability to the company and from a fairness perspective, they do nothing so they should also get nothing. >>7669 I once did an IQ test as a kid and one of the questions was to find as many advantages of a soft-cover book over a hard-cover book. Good luck for children from families with no books. I only remember that i answered price and weight, which were directly from my own experience. My parents let me choose a book for up to 10 bucks. If the hardcover is 11, i might get the soft cover for 9. And from carrying books to school, I knew to appreciate the lightweight ones. Does it make me more intelligent that my parents had the money and education/interest to buy me books? Probably yes to a fucked-up degree, but that's not what should be tested in my opinion. Otherwise they could just test the income of my parents and make that part of the test as well. I would've failed the question about advantages of smaller boats for example. My parents don't own a boat and i never will. A rich kid might have overheard the parents talk about boat parking fees rising for long boats or some shit. Or maybe you need fewer staff to drive the boat around. I think IQ tests should test the performance in completely new circumstances. Nothing where growing up in a particular class is an advantage or disadvantage.

Bernd, there is this famous zen koan: When Banzan was walking through a market he overheard a conversation between a butcher and his customer. "Give me the best piece of meat you have," said the customer. "Everything in my shop is the best," replied the butcher. "You cannot find here any piece of meat that is not the best." At these words Banzan became enlightened. I don't understand it. What lead him to enlightenment? The butcher was lying, there are bad and worse pieces, some have more meat, some have more fat, some are less fresh. The butcher was just trying to sell more.

>>7625 You are missing the point. It doesnt really matter what koan is about, it just meditation object. I try not to but I also fall victim to shame often. Gertrud was the last novel by Hesse that I hadn’t yet read. It’s rather similar to another early novel like Roßhalde than to his later novels. I feel his later great novels which are the most popular are always focused on one character, the protagonist, the alter ego of Hesse. Sure, in Gertrud that’s the case as well in a sense, but the psychology of other characters in addition to the protagonist is more pronounced I‘d say. Yet again it‘s the story of an artist, a composer this time, that was brought to paper. I felt that aspect came a bit too short in comparison to the psychological aspect, but still not a bad book. Not my favorite Hesse though.

For history oriented Bernds, I recommend City of the Sharp-Nosed Fish by Peter Parsons >Why? Because it provides an intimate look into the lives of every-day inhabitants that lived ~2000 years ago, and that is actually very unique for a period in such a distant past. Most of the stuff we know from antiquity comes from writings that were preserved during the medieval era by being copied. The actual original sources are long gone. This also means that the things that survive are mostly written by important people considered worthy enough to copy and maintain--famous classical writers like Cicero, Seneca, Xenophon, and so on. To the extent we know about lives of commoners during the era, it is mostly through the view of those writers, who would have been the elites of their time. The extremely dry climate of Egypt however allowed the preservation of massive troves of written documents, letters, scribblings, and such from ordinary people in various towns and cities adjacent to the Nile. The book collates them and provides context behind them, giving you hundreds of little snapshots from their every day lives. Personal letters to friends and family, business-related arguments, etc. It's a very fun read if a detailed look into the common life back then is of any interest to you.
>>7642 Thanks Bernd, this is extremely interesting. Reminds me of this a little: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onfim
>>7651 It's very much like that, or the famous tablet to Ea-Nasir, just on a much, much larger scale. Mundane writings and drawings of people who most likely completely forgot about them soon after they were made, unaware they had inadvertently created invaluable fragments of cultural heritage that would be put into books and museums for countless people to look upon and read about centuries later, thereby immortalizing a part of their lives by sheer luck.

I'm really sorry for opening this thread, and I promise I don't intend to turn this into /pol/ and it's not directed against Israel/the Jews. But I can't stop rejoicing over the fact that Germany is finally standing up to its bully. The Jews have fucked up so hard, even the weakest chancellor Germany has ever had can now muster up the courage to deny them their usual protection money. Can we celebrate Germany a bit? This country has had so many bad news for so long now and gets kicked around by everybody, it finally needed a win.

>>7508 I agree with most of what you've written there except 2 things, I don't think it's just random creepy slavishness or holocaust induced guilt, I'd say more likely, as with any international power network they use what's available to them to influence. One you mentioned is the media which still has sway with some people, there's also kompromat like Ghislaine Maxwells father was gathering when he worked for Mossad and Jeffrey Epstein may have later been involved in producing on influential people. Then there is bribery. None of these things are unique to jews but people see the surnames and the old brain does it's pattern recognition thing. The truth is there are a shit tonne of global power networks trying to sway politics away from democracy and away from the little guy.
>>7508 Sorry Bernd the second thing I forgot to write is that religious rules or arguments seep into culture eventually.
>>7645 >>7646 Epstein was almost certainly an Israeli intel OP, but his whole ring being busted and aired out into a national scandal shows the limits of their ability to influence, and while I'm willing to accept blackmail explains some of US political support for Israel, I don't believe it explains all or even most of it. It's hard to not just see it as primarily ideological brain-worms of the older generations who were naturally more inclined to support Israel due to the ideas they were raised on, coupled with the usual lobbying from domestic and foreign actors. It's not like a significant portion of the US electorate wasn't pro-Israel until very recently. You'd expect to see such sentiment represented. The creepy slavishness is mostly an American thing, and I've always interpreted it as a bastardized expression of American nationalist impulses that before Trump weren't given sufficient representation in American politics, for which which Israel served as a convenient outlet through which cowardly politicians could posture as "tough" without infringing on any important taboos. Especially with GWOT being serving as the background to the last two decades and Evangelicals comprising a significant portion of one of the Republican coalition, while Jews (historically very pro-Israel but now much less so) themselves ensured a similar pro-Israel bent on the Democratic side. To clarify, I don't think anyone but the most dishonest Zionists would claim Jews or Israel never did shady shit. When I said plotting in my original post, it referred to the idea that their power and influence on the US is as a whole the result of some carefully orchestrated OP as opposed to a mostly organic development. >I forgot to write is that religious rules or arguments seep into culture eventually. On a very general level. But a Jew of the likes of Harvey Weinstein almost certainly never read a page of the Talmud in their lives. The Talmud isn't equivalent to the Bible, it's a massive compilation of rabbinical autism and serious discussions about a heaps and heaps of legalistic bullshit that laymen aren't expected to keep up with or understand. Outside of orthodox Jews (who in the US make up around 10% of Jewry IIRC), it's not typical for Jews to read it at all. A more fitting (but not perfect) comparison would be the writings of the Church Fathers in Christian theology--important and influential in the Christian tradition, but it's not something average Christians know, let alone have it influence their everyday lives. And religious influence goes both ways. Just as a Jew is naturally influenced by his upbringing, so is he influenced by the surrounding environment. In the case of diasporoids, that environment will be significantly non-Jewish. And the less strong their personal attachment to Judaism, the more they're prone to consciously or subconsciously internalize non-Jewish practices and behavior. When you actually look at US Jews, you see a demographic group that for the most part doesn't live up to any traditional Jewish ideals at all: low birth rates, massive outmarriage rates, high rates of professed atheism/agnosticism, LGBT acceptance, you can go on. Within a century, outside of Hasid occupied enclaves like Kiryas Yoel, American Jews will become a token identity as meaningful as German-Americans--fully assimilated and indistinguishable from their gentile compatriots. Hasidim and ultra-orthodox Jews show what it looks like when your life is actually influenced by the Talmud to a significant degree, and it's a night and day difference from their Reform and Conservative counterparts, let alone atheist Jews. Damn, I should write a blog.
I've viewed Merz speech on Fregatte Bayern. Good speech but also much platitudes.

I'm not sure if this is related but I've always thought to myself whenever I saw women with children out and about that it is basically pretty much just saying that you have had sex and that you are a sex haver, and for a long time, I actually was a little bothered by it. But now I'm realizing that every single person on earth, even if they aren't babies, come from people that have had sex in the past. Every single person on this world is a consequence of people having sex. Billions of people? Sex. And then I'm told that sex isn't everything and that it doesn't matter, it's just a lie sold to you by people that have sex to make you cope with not having sex. Women saying that men don't want anything other than sex are stupid, of course we want sex, everyone has sex, having sex is normal. Anyway, that's my thought of the day.

Cars must have been one of the most catastrophic inventions in human history. They lower life quality just so goddamn much.
24 posts omitted.
>>6424 I don't really disagree with that. But while they may be gossipy and passive aggressive they still do frequently go out and socialize. Not having a working car does stop me.. The easiest way to explain this principle and many others relating to having a car(or even principles of life in general) is through a binary of reward and effort. How much reward do I get for the effort I put in to something? How much effort is it to dry somewhere on a whim? Not much. How much effort is it to walk, ride a bike, arrange and wait for public transport, hire a horse etc? Far, more. So the reward to effort cost is worth it with a car but not without one. Cars also enable suburban life which actually offers a better standard of living and one with less noise and better air quality. >You're only half right, the economic relation is two-sided. Because building public transport to a place induces demand to travel to that place. With cars, your rando potato farm is not a worthy destination among all the other places you can go, with a train station for example, the potato farmer will see people coming in and out of the train and start offering amenities to the travelers, suddenly there's people going to that potato farm specifically for what it offers. GDP and land value tends to explode around urban light rail projects. That works to a degree but only to a degree. It's never going to be financially viable to set up and run a train track just to go to some random guys potato field. You are never going to get the traffic to warrant it. Even many urban routes are heavily subsidized, let alone routes to potato fields in the middle of nowhere.
>>6424 >Unlike car makers, gas stations, parking lots, They all do business on private land, not on public roads or sidewalks. It's not like a gas station just pops up in the middle of the road and now you have to drive around it just like you have to walk around those rental scooters. >and road builders? They get government contracts to build public infrastructure and then put their machines back on their lots or move them to the next construction site. I don't see how that's even remotely comparable to putting your stuff on a public sidewalk. The most comparable thing would be car rental companies. But they have private lots here. One I rented from has an open lot they own for their trucks and they rent a section of a parking garage for their cars. There is car sharing and the cars are placed "in public", but on dedicated lots that the companies rent from the city. The car sharing cars can only be parked on the marked spots paid for by the company. The scooters are just left wherever.
Actually, let me extend that to all motorized vehicles. They are soulless af.
Cars were a massive improvement over horses in every aspect, specially on safety issues. Horses fucked up your spine regardless of whether you were a prudent rider. Still, speeding up to tens of km/hour something that usually weights at least a ton near other people is a retarded idea intrinsically. Cars did their part by making horses outdated, but they should also be put aside eventually.
>>6443 And yet you have to walk around roads, and parked cars, and around parking lots, and so on. What used to be space for you to walk freely in was decreed, under pressure from car manufacturers, to not belong you anymore. Sidewalks were built after as an amendment, and even in your country not always required. If these laws didn't exist there would be far more space for those scooters and you to coexist. Even without anti-jaywalking laws like those that exist in the US, it's still generally a danger to step off the sidewalk or cross the street outside the designated spot (and even in the designated spot, there's no guarantee you'll be safe). Yet you complain about the scooter taking less than a square meter of your space and not about the car who has literally rebuilt the city to take hectares away from you, again, by virtue of existing. Not to mention, of course, all the other social and environmental consequences that have been pointed out in this thread. At least no serious bodily harm will come to you if you decide to step over the scooter (which isn't hard to do), or accidentally bump into it. Hell, it seems they only bother you when they're not being used; a car is a nuisance, and a source of danger, whether it's parked on the street, or moving in transit. Even our own homes, at least for many of us, having a car is a potential necessity that developers have to account for when building houses and reserve enough space for a garage. Only added pic in case I'm not being clear enough.

Such a shame about the grass in the way in pic 2
>>7242 I considered using healing, cloning stamp and auto fill to remove it, but fuck it, it's just golden jackal photo number #3345. These are photos of the same jackal family I took right after I bought the camera second hand from a religious woman, with an Helions 44 2, on the beginning of July. I barely knew how to focus and set iso or shutter speed for twilight.

Does the US version still hold up? I might give it a go.
First two seasons of Arrested Development was the best US-Comedy, imo
>>7155 Jessica Walter was the best.
>>7155 This was very funny, very unique they tried to copy it with modern family and schitts creek but I found both crap. Whoever did the casting for arrested development is a legend too.
It is very strange to watch something like early Peep Show (s1-3) and then to watch something like the office american version. The office seems cringe and contribed in comparison.

>>5889 imagine watching Mobies in 25.
>>5892 I'm talking about the disgusting as fuck scene in the first 5 to 10 minutes or so. All of the guys, Deniro, Pacino and Kilmer are ugly as fuck guys I dont want to see fucking. Especially not in close-ups.
