Here's the explanation from RTÉ:
"RTÉ feels that Ireland’s participation remains unconscionable given the appalling loss of lives in Gaza and the humanitarian crisis there, which continues to put the lives of so many civilians at risk. RTÉ remains deeply concerned by the targeted killing of journalists in Gaza during the conflict and the continued denial of access to international journalists to the territory."
I copied it from their website:

As a male, more than 15 years of age, heterosexual, I don't care much about that show. But it was interesting listening to and reading about reactions from Israeli embassy when this was hinted some time ago.
Why do they care so much about media in a small place at the outer edge of Europe?
Powers that be at this place are interested in having good relations with Israel, but they are not really loud about it. Artists, media people, and what's still there of left side of political spectrum are vocal about supporting Palestine.
Anyway, I was listening to a news station this morning and one of commenters hinted that Germany made noises about withdrawing their support if Israel is removed.
Apparently, it would have a big financial impact.
First I discarded it as bullshit, but then I've read the article that I've linked.

This, 100% this. People falling into water is more interesting to watch than a shitty song contest.
