He has Grad der Behinderung of 60% and he's doing just fine working as a programmer and he's by far the most autistic person I know. All the other actuall diagnosed autists I know are below him on the spectrum and are just a little weird. If your kid has autism, you're basically rolling a d100 and anything under ~70 is salvagable. But your kid having an extra chromosome is a guaranteed headache.

He has been employed his entire adult life, always in very simple jobs. Low wages, but it still helps in the family budget. With autists, on the other hand, all of the ones that I know are disfunctional. Although I believe with many of them the problem is lack of proper care and attention from the family, or even diagnosis, because people in this country aren't well educated in autism yet.

She worked a quiet office job and spent the rest of her time at home, not really liking interactions with people besides her family, me and two close friend. Every day and week had to be planned out or she panicked, when we cooked, everything had to follow the recipe exactly and had to be the same every time, she was stressed out by many things, but still, she just lived her life. If you have down's syndrome, you might be a cheerful little retard, but you will need help with pretty much everything your entire life.
